Crypto: Level Prototype
This is a prototype for the level and combat system in my Gameboy game: Crypto.
The controls will be explained to the players in a tutorial, so for now, I will explain them here:
Controls:
- 'WASD' or 'Arrow Keys' = Movement
- 'A' (Attack) = 'Z' Key
- 'B' (Block) = 'X' Key
- 'Start = Enter Key
- 'Select' = Shift Key
EXPLORING:
When exploring, use 'A' to interact with the world around you.
You can access your inventory outside of combat by pushing 'Start'. You can equip weapons, and combat-useable items from the inventory screen.
The Stick can be equipped as a weapon.
The Canteen can be used to heal you. Refill it at the well after three uses.
The Bomb can be used during combat to deal 5 damage to the enemy.
COMBAT:
Attacking:
When the slider is in the green, press the 'A' button to hit the enemy. The enemy can only be hit when it is not attacking you. If you miss, the combat icon will indicate this, and the enemy will get an attack of opportunity on you if it's not stunned.
If the enemy is stunned, you'll do double damage.
Blocking:
You'll be able to tell when the enemy attacks when it flashes at you. Once it attacks you, you can block it by pressing the 'B' button. The enemy has different attacks, so you'll have to figure out when the flashing stops and the attacking begins in order to block appropriately. Time your blocks well and you'll prevent damage AND stun the enemy.
If you miss your block, you'll need to wait for the cool down to finish before you can block again.
